In the show
Though the song was performed by both Cat and Jade, it was picked by Jade, who had to be under the impression that Cat was going to do as well with the song as she did. In the context of the Schneider-verse, "Give It Up" is an already existing somewhat risqué pop song. Thus, it can be heard as part of the DJ's playlist in the iCarly episode that crosses over with Victorious, called iParty with Victorious, though there is a goof - the song heard in the episode is played as sung by Cat and Jade.
In Tori Goes Platinum, the song is performed by Tara Ganz during her audition to Platinum Music Awards' contest.
In real life
According to Dan Schneider's twitter, the song was supposed to be released on iTunes in early December. Instead an illegal copy was added on January 2, 2011, and removed later on that month. It was also listed in Amazon as an MP3 illegally under similar circumstances. The listing can be found here, but the song is no longer available. Ariana Grande stated on her Twitter that the song was inspired by "Lady Marmalade". The song is on the Victorious soundtrack, both on CD and on legal downloads as of August 2, 2011.
