Plot[]

Give it up cat and jade back to back

Production still.

While trying to do a photo shoot at home with their dad's new camera, Trina answers Tori's phone when the school's hottie, Mark McCallan, calls to ask Tori out. Since Tori was washing her hair, Trina tells him Tori has plans, but that she is hotter and free on Friday, so he asks Trina to play glow-in-the-dark mini golf on Friday night instead. When Tori finds out, she gets mad and tries to bludgeon Trina with their dad's new camera stand until he intervenes. He tells Trina that she won't be able to go out Friday night because she's getting her wisdom teeth out on Friday afternoon. Tori laughs and dances until her dad says that she'll have to take care of Trina since he and their mom will be in Santa Barbara all weekend, which they use as an excuse to avoid taking care of Trina. Trina laughs, causing Tori to get mad at her and try to pull Trina's wisdom teeth out herself, chasing her again.

The next part of the episode begins with Cat and André doing a scene in acting class in the Blackbox Theater, but Tori's phone interrupts the scene when Sikowitz finishes. At the end of the acting class, Sikowitz asks the class to share their plans for the weekend. Sikowitz points out that Robbie has no plans. Robbie scoffs but admits that he doesn't. Rex says that he will be "partying" with a couple of Northridge girls. Cat tells everyone (despite bored looks on her classmates' faces) that she and Jade are going to a new karaoke club in Los Feliz, Karaoke Dokie since they have singing competitions on weekends. Robbie asks if he and Rex can come and sing there as well while Rex protests about Robbie forgetting about the Northridge girls. Robbie assures him that the girls can come and watch, but Rex worries about being forced to spend his money on their food.

Tori wishes she could go but tells them she has to spend her weekend taking care of Trina because of her parents leaving for Santa Barbara. Beck and Jade weren't surprised about her plan but Tori gets upset with Jade's insult. The process of taking care of Trina after her wisdom teeth are taken out proves to be really difficult. Trina is constantly moaning in pain and refuses to take her antibiotic medicine (which Tori forces it into her mouth), let Tori ice her jaw with frozen peas, or flush her gums with salt water, which constantly ends up with them fighting and arguing.

At the karaoke contest, Cat and Jade bring Beck and André with them. While the gang is hanging out, Robbie and Rex sing the song "Forever Baby". When Jade steps away to get a soda, two girls, Hayley Ferguson and Tara Ganz, flirt with Beck and André. When Jade shows up, Hayley and Tara refuse to back down. Tara points out André's Hollywood Arts jacket, which Hayley calls a "school for wannabes". André and the gang try to defuse the situation by talking about buffalo nuggets and fun facts about the history of karaoke. After that, they challenge Cat and Jade to a sing-off.

Hayley and Tara are up first and sing "Number One" by Ginger Fox, showing that they're not particularly talented singers. When they perform, the Hollywood Arts gang is shocked to hear how bad Hayley and Tara sing. Next, Cat and Jade then counter with "Give It Up" next and make their school proud by showing off how well they can sing in comparison to Hayley and Tara. Even though the crowd enjoyed Cat and Jade's song more, the owner of the karaoke club comes out to announce that the winner is Hayley and Tara. It's revealed that Hayley and Tara won because the karaoke club owner is Hayley's dad and is the main reason why the competitions are rigged. Rex, Beck, Jade, André, and Cat all express their outrage at the competition being fixed, but even with other crowd members booing his call, Hayley bans Cat and Jade from ever singing at Karaoke Dokie again. The gang, furious, declare that they're leaving immediately... but only after finishing their food.

Sikowitz does his own rendition of Number One at the Karaoke Dokie.

The next day, Tori is sleeping on the couch after she had to deal with the torture of taking care of Trina. Her friends come over with frozen yogurt to cheer her up. After André, Beck, and Robbie come to check on Tori, Cat and Jade also visit to tell her about they lost to Hayley and Tara during the singing competition at Karaoke Dokie. Upset with how the competition was rigged, Cat tells Tori about Jade's plan. With Jade stealing Beck's car keys so he can't leave the house, the girls leave the boys to take care of Trina and get their plan underway. For André, Beck and Robbie, taking care of Trina also proves to be difficult for them. After Robbie puts salt water in Trina's mouth, Trina bites Robbie's nose and fights off the three.

Jade and Cat show up while Hayley and Tara are singing "Hate Me Love Me" by Ginger Fox. They bet Hayley and Tara that anyone in the place could impress the audience more by letting them choose who from the audience to sing against. Hayley and Tara pick a hideous girl named Louise Nordoff to compete against, not knowing she is actually Tori in disguise, thinking that this "Ugly Betty" will lose easily. Cat and Jade, knowing that's Tori and she would easily beat them, tell them not to pick her but someone with a chance but Hayley and Tara insist. For the duel, Cat and Jade then place a bet on Hayley and Tara: if Hayley and Tara win, Hayley gets to make out with Beck, and if they lose, they have to take care of Trina, who Cat and Jade know will be torture to work with since she got her wisdom teeth removed.

Tori picks the song "Freak the Freak Out" despite the MC telling her the intensity of the song. However, she defies all odds and surprises everyone (except for Cat and Jade who know about the plan), especially Hayley and Tara, by taking off her ugly girl disguise and revealing her true self. The audience loves Tori more than Hayley and Tara and as a result, she is declared the winner. Everyone including Cat and Jade celebrates with her, signaling that Cat and Jade's ban is officially lifted and Jade's plan is a success. Tori then comes home and Robbie, Beck and Andre are upset that she, Cat and Jade left them at the Vega house to take care of Trina. Beck is upset that Jade took his car keys and Robbie is upset because he was covered in Trina's gum blood due to him doing most of the tasks. They keep arguing until Hayley and Tara come over. Tori tells them that the three are done taking care of Trina and it's now Hayley and Tara's turn because they lost to her back at Karaoke Dokie as part of their bet. Hayley didn't want to do one of the tasks, but Tori tells her that they lost and had to deal with it.

In the end, Sikowitz sings "Number One" by Ginger Fox, the same song ironically Hayley and Tara sang when they faced Cat and Jade. While the gang is watching him, Hayley and Tara are forced to deal with the torture of taking care of Trina. Trina's parents come home but when her father sees Trina fighting the two while Hayley is attempting to put the gauze in Trina's mouth, he is upset and tells Holly Vega to go back into the car. Back at Karaoke Dokie, Sikowitz he imitates a scene from Flashdance, sitting on a chair and releasing water on himself, applauded by the rest of the gang who then hugs him in joyous celebration.

Beck: Yeah, how great is Japan right?
André: Good people.

Cat: I like Japan...Except my brother got stabbed there once. It was an accident. He's better now. Are buffalo nuggets spicy...?

André: Oh, look at what they got on the menu! Buffalo nuggets. Well, that's good news! Not for the buffalo...

Cat: (To Hayley) Um, hi? Miss?

Hayley: Oh... Hollywood Arts, the school for wannabes.
Jade: You know, you might wannabe shutting your face there.
Hayley: Really?
Jade: (in a matter of fact tone) Really.

Hayley: We won because we rock!
Cat: Yeah, don't believe everything your daddy says.
Jade: (to Hayley) Like when he tells you you're pretty!

Tori: Oh, I wish I could go to Karaoke Dokie!
Beck: Why can't you?
Jade: Who cares why she can't?
Beck: I was just wondering why is she-
Jade: What, you need Tori around just to have a good time? Is that your point?!
Beck: Dude!
Jade: What?!
Sikowitz: Jade, you're lucky to have Beck. Don't be such a gank!

Jade: I'm gonna get a soda. (Stands up and walks away).

André: Get me one?

Jade: No.

André: (To Beck) She can be a gank.

Beck: You have no idea.

Cat: I like your purse.

Jade: Thanks.

Cat: What is this?

Jade: Monkey fur.

Cat: Oh.

(Bell rings)

Sikowitz: AAHH!!! Now, whose phone is that?

André: That's the bell.

Sikowitz: Oh. Bye!

Tori: [To Trina] Why were you on my phone?

Trina: [Tosses Tori's phone on the couch] I wasn't!

Tori: Do you think I didn't just see you toss my phone on the couch!?

Trina: Why is your hair wet!

Tori: Because I just washed it!

Cat: [To Tori about Karaoke Dokie] So, why can't you come?

Tori: Trina's getting her dumb wisdom teeth out today and guess who has to spend the whole weekend taking care of her?

Cat: Ok um...is it someone famous?

Tori: No, me!

André: Why can't your parents take care of her?

Tori: Cause they're gonna be in Santa Barbara.

André: What for?

Tori: So they don't have to take care of Trina!

Beck: Can't blame them.

Jade: Shucks to be you.

Tori: [To Jade] Gank.

DJ: Alright! A little R&B action toni-i-ight!
Jade: Yeah! Just play it.

Cat: What's on your arm?

Tori: Trina's mouth blood.

Cat: Ew.

Jade: Cool.

Tori: I'm just cranky because Trina drove me crazy all night.

Beck: Where is she?

Tori: [Points to kitchen table] There.

André: You tied her up?

Tori: I had to! She refused to take her antibiotic and when I tried to force her to take it, she started swinging on me, so I had to do that!

Robbie: Well, at least she's sleeping.

Beck: Unless she's dead.

Tori: [Looking at Trina] Nah she's sleeping. I'm pretty sure...

Beck: What's that on your arm?

Tori: Trina's mouth blood.

André, Beck and Robbie: Ewww!

Tori: Hey, will you guys untie her, I'm supposed to flush her gum sockets with saltwater.

André, Beck and Robbie: EW!!!

Cat: Hi!

Jade: Hello.

Cat: We brought you frozen yogurt!

Tori: Why? You know frozen yogurt doesn't solve all the world's problems!

Jade: I told you to bring her donuts!

Cat: [To Tori] Why aren't you being nice?

Jade: And why do you look disgusting?

Tori: Trina.

Cat and Jade: Ohhhh...

[After the girls win the singing competition]

Hayley: Thank you, dad.

Jade: Dad?

André, Beck, and Jade: (simultaneously) Dad!

Cat: Why would she call him dad unless... I bet he's her father!

[At Tori and Trina's house]

Tori: Okay, it says that you're supposed to take one of these antibiotics every six hours.

Trina: Uh-uh!

Tori: Okay, open your mouth.

Trina: (whimpers) I don't want that!

Tori: You have to take it or you'll get an infection.

Trina: No Tori! (overlapping argument)

Tori: (Trina flings the bottle across the table and whimpers) Trina! (goes to retrieve the pills and the bottle)

Tori: You gotta take this!

Trina: No!

Tori: Yes! (Trina struggles with Tori and swings her arm almost hitting Tori)

Tori: (ducks) Did you just swing on me?

Trina: (breathing) Maybe.

Tori: Take the pill!

Trina: NO! (Tori tussles with Trina trying to force the pill into her mouth)

Tori: I don't care what you say! Take the antibiotic! Get it in ha, ha! (grabs a water bottle) Now swallow it!

Trina: (Tori dumps the water all over Trina who protests) No!

Tori: That's right, get it down there, aha!

Trina: (groans and strains after Tori stops dumps the water all over her)

(Tori gets home)

Tori: Hey guys!

Beck: There she is!

Robbie: About time!

André: How could you leave us here to take care of that monster!

Trina: Huh?!

André: Yeah I said monster!

Beck: You know Jade stole my car keys!

Robbie: I am covered in Trina's gum blood!

Hayley: I don't want to flush her bloody gum holes!

Tori: Too bad. You lost the bet!

Mr. Vega: What's going on?
Trina: She was gonna HIT me with that!
Mr. Vega: Tori! This is my brand new camera!

Trivia[]

Ftfo
  • This is the first time Robbie, Rex, Jade, Cat, and Sikowitz sing on the show.
  • This is the fourth episode of Season 1 in which Jade has blue highlights, after Pilot, Survival of the Hottest, and Wi-Fi in the Sky.
  • A new theme song is featured for the episode with several differences, in order below:
  1. The bass drum is taken out of the intro where Tori is in the car, like in the original track.
  2. When the Victorious logo is shown and the O shines, you can hear a shimmer.
  3. Another shot of Tori from The Great Ping Pong Scam is shown.
    Catorade12
  4. It shows the name of the episode and uses the bridge (except the second line) and the last chorus instead of the first chorus.
  5. Lots of extra shots of each cast member/the entire cast together, hanging out and dancing are added.
  • This is the third time it is mentioned that Mr. Vega is a police officer (the first being the extended version of Pilot, second being The Birthweek Song).
  • This episode showcases that Holly and David Vega aren't good parents to Tori and Trina.
  • The part where Tori sings Freak the Freak Out and takes off her makeup has turned into a popular TikTok trend.
  • This is the second time Rex mentions his "all hot-girls volleyball squad" (He invites Tori to join in The Great Ping Pong Scam).
  • When the song "Number One" played, a picture of Ginger Fox from the iCarly episode iFix a Pop Star is shown.
  • Hayley's father is played by Tom Virtue, who played Mr. Roland in a few episodes of Drake and Josh.
  • As of January 2, 2011, this is the first episode of Victorious to reach #1 on the overall charts on iTunes.
  • Sikowitz pays a tribute to the film Flashdance when he has water fall on him while lying on a chair, with the lighting making a Flashdance-esque shot.
  • Karaoke Dokie returns in Three Girls and a Moose.
  • Trina saying "Nooooo...I gotta get my wisdom teeth taken out" on laughing gas after leaving the surgeon was similar to what Sam said (from iCarly) in "iThink They Kissed", where she said "We gotta go to the dentist" when she was at the dentist.
  • Louise Nordoff (Tori) was reading a book called Coping With Failure. According to her posts on TheSlap, she borrowed the book from Sinjin.
  • Two Ginger Fox songs that were first released in the iCarly episode "iFix a Pop Star" were sung in this episode.
    • "Number One" by Ginger Fox is sung twice, first by Hayley and Tara during the karaoke competition with Jade and Cat, and second by Sikowitz at the end of the episode
    • "Hate Me, Love Me" also makes a brief appearance.
  • This is the second time Trina has had issues with her mouth, the first being in Pilot when her tongue is swollen from tea made with Chinese herbs.
  • Trina wants Tori to call "Dr. Doty" - a reference to writer George Doty IV ("Stage Fighting/Wi-Fi In the Sky" and a few other Nick shows). Doctor Doty also appeared in the episode of iCarly, iLook Alike when he comes to help sew a wrestler's ear back on.
  • The episode of iCarly that aired a week before this did may or may not have referenced this episode; Guppy yells "I'm hearing the voices!" in the same tone that Sikowitz complains about the buzzing.
  • This is the second time "wazz" is said in the show: when Rex said, "Are you wazzing me!?" The first was Wi-Fi in the Sky.
  • Tori uses a different voice when she says, "Me?" after Hayley challenges her then when she talks onstage.
  • Tara appeared in Stage Fighting as a hot blonde. She was also "Tammy" from The Amanda Show sketch "The Girl's Room".
    • She also appears later in Sam & Cat; with a minor role in "#WeStealARockStar".
  • In one of the shots, before it goes to Tori's house where she drags Trina in, you can see that they have a pool near their patio.
  • Trina is the only main character who didn't go to Karaoke Dokie because of her wisdom teeth being taken out.
  • After this episode, Robbie sings "Forever Baby" to Rex again in Rex Dies.
  • This episode (specifically Part 2, unless the opening titles for this episode are counted as the title being said) is the fourth episode in which the episode's title is said in the show.
  • Trina only fully speaks in the beginning as she has her wisdom teeth taken out and her speech is muffled by gauze for the rest of the episode.
  • It is likely that because Hayley's dad owns Karaoke Dokie, she and Tara have the authority to do whatever they please such as banning the Hollywood Arts gang from singing there.
    • However, in the episode Three Girls and a Moose, Cat and Tori were singing their duet LA Boyz, most likely due to the ban being lifted after Tori's victory or the owner was different.
  • It is revealed in this episode that Trina knows at least a little karate, a talent of hers that we later revisit in Season 2 during the episode Helen Back Again.
  • The purple boots Trina wears during the majority of the episode are ones she also wore in Tori the Zombie and appear again in later episodes.
  • Tori reveals in this episode that she hates being swayed by someone.
  • Eric Lange revealed on Twitter that his favorite scene to film of all the Victorious episodes was the Flashdance scene at the end.
  • This is the second episode of Victorious to show blood, after Cat's New Boyfriend.
  • This episode was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in the Outstanding Children's Program category but lost to "A Child's Garden of Poetry" from HBO.
  • Christie, one of the Northridge girls, may be a reference to Sam from iCarly. (They have the same hair color and texture and like eating pork chops.)
  • A girl in the karaoke club audience was also in the scene during class when Cat and André do their poisonous spider scene.
  • When Jade took Beck's car key, it infers that she can drive. However, she could have just taken them and left Tori's house to make sure Beck wouldn't try and go after them.
  • André and Beck never stated their weekend plans.
    • They likely told their plans off screen.
  • This is the first Victorious 1 hour special.
  • This is the first episode to feature more than one song.
  • Part 1 is the third episode to not have the main plot focused on Tori. It is also the first episode to feature Tori in a subplot as opposed to the main plot.
  • Ending taglines:
    • "Enjoy my monkey fur!" - Jade (Part 1)
    • "That is so not tight!" - Cat (Part 2)
  • This is the first time someone recognizes André's Hollywood Arts jacket. The second time is in Wok Star.
  • Sikowitz sings at the Karaoke Dokie at the end of the episode. In one of the brief shots in between takes, it clearly states that it is a club for those "18 and under". However, it's possible that the club's target audience is 18 and under but people older than that can still enter.
  • In production order, this is the season 1 finale.

Reception[]

The special premiered to 5.27 million viewers[2] (5.7 after DVR playbacks are counted) and was received well by fans. The November 28th repeat at 6 pm was received the second-highest audience for its premiere weekend with 3.82 million viewers.

Goofs[]

  • When Tori sings Freak the Freak Out in the end, the audience member closest to Tori's left is standing up and clapping to the music as she sings the last lines of the final chorus. As soon as the camera view changes, they're sitting and watching as if they weren't standing. The next shot shows them standing and applauding again. In the same scene, when she sings the chorus the first time, there is an audience member to her right who stands up in a closer look, but when it zooms out, he is sitting then stands up again.
  • Trina would have likely had complications in her surgery due to all the physical activities and even fights she engages in.
    • It's also possible she wouldn't even be able to engage in those activities, due to the pain from her surgery.
  • American captions misspell Hayley as "Haley".
  • British captions use yellow for the song Number One while the rest of the episode only uses white and cyan.
  • While Cat and Jade are singing, Jade "attacks" the two girls' food, but in the wide shots, you can still see it like it was before the assault.
  • When they are at Karaoke Dokie, Jade says that she's going to get a soda. André then asks her to get him one, but if you look at the table, André already has one. It is possible that the can is empty though, and he needs a refill.
  • When Tori and Trina get back from the dentist, it is unknown how they got home. Trina couldn't have driven home since she wasn't feeling well, but in Season 3, it is revealed that Tori can't drive, so that means Tori couldn't have driven home, yet she has keys when she walks in. Though that might have been her house key and they could have taken a bus or taxi or that their parents dropped them off before leaving for Santa Barbara.
  • When Beck, André, and Robbie come to Tori's house, Tori's hair is all messed up, but between camera angles a piece of her hair keeps on changing position, with no time for her to move it.
  • After Cat and Jade's performance when they sit down to eat, Jade is picking up her soda. When the camera switches to a different angle, her soda is back on the table and she is picking it up again.
  • Towards the end of the episode, when the audience is voting on who should win the competition, Cat starts off between Tori and Jade, but, in the next shot, she is on Tori's left and nowhere near Jade. However, when the camera moves back to them again, she is back in her original position.
  • After Tori's performance, when the audience votes for Hayley and Tara, the DJ can be seen in the distance not clapping, but when the camera moves onto him, he suddenly claps.
  • In the last part of the show when Sikowitz performs a song, he lets water drop on him but before that, he sits on a chair and pulls in his legs, but when the camera zooms out, it looks as if he never pulled in his legs.
  • When Tori jumps on Hayley and Tara's table, the basket and ketchup remain right-side up. But in the next shot, both the basket and the ketchup are upside down.
  • After Tori and Trina return from the dentist, Tori drags Trina up the staircase. Just as they reach the top of the staircase, a prop board can be seen under Trina. At no time did Trina or Tori put a board under Trina before they went up the stairs.
  • If the waitress didn't deliver the food in time (right after Cat and Jade, were banned), Jade would have left her black purse in Karaoke Dokie.
  • In class, when Sikowitz says that they have about four minutes left, there is no watch on his wrist. There may have been a clock in the room.

Running Gags[]

  • Characters calling Jade a "Gank". (Sikowitz, Tori, André)
  • Characters talking about buffalo nuggets.
  • Cat talking about her brother. This is a constant running gag throughout the show.
  • Sikowitz freaking out because of different kinds of sounds.
  • People mentioning Beck's hair. (Part 1; Hayley, Beck. Part 2; Cat, Jade)
  • Cat realizing things long after they've been said by others.
  • Characters bringing Tori frozen yogurt.
  • Trina's moaning after getting her wisdom teeth removed.
  • Someone getting covered in Trina's gum blood.
  • People fighting Trina while taking care of her.
